Hollyland LARK A1 Compact Wireless Microphone System – First Look

While Chinese camera accessories manufacturer Hollyland began in the industry by creating affordable wireless video systems, they have developed a solid lineup of wireless audio systems over the years. Indeed, during NAB 2025, the company released the Hollyland LARK MAX 2, which was introduced in a funny and excellent interview with Randel.

The Hollyland LARK A1 wireless microphone system was announced two weeks ago, and CineGear 2025 was the perfect occasion to visit their booth and take a closer look at it in person.

Design and Features

The Hollyland LARK A1 is a truly compact and lightweight wireless microphone system. The transmitter measures only 30 x 16.3 x 8.8 mm (1.18 x 0.64 x 0.34 in) and weighs 8 g (0.28 oz), while the receiver measures 34 x 16.3 x 9 mm (1.33 x 0.64 x 0.35 in) and weighs only 5.9 g (0.21 oz). That entire system is as small and light as it can get.

Since the LARK A1 is designed for creating content with a smartphone, it does not require a 3.5mm microphone input/output, the preamps that accompany it, internal recording, and other bulky components, which helps keep the size and weight to a bare minimum.

Performance Specifications

The LARK A1 has a maximum transmission range of 200 meters (650 feet). The transmitters attach to the subject via a magnet and can handle a pressure level of 120 dB SPL. The system supports audio recording at up to 48 kHz with 24-bit resolution. Gain level adjustments can be made in six steps via the free LarkSound app.

Receiver Versions

Two versions of the receiver are available: one with a built-in USB-C connector for Android and the latest iPhone models, and another with a Lightning connector. On the side of the receiver, there is a USB-C port allowing you to charge your phone while using the LARK A1.

Charging Case and Battery Life

The Hollyland LARK A1 Combo and Duo versions come with a charging case. The transmitter has a battery life of around 9 hours, and the charging case can recharge both microphones twice. Therefore, if you use only one microphone, you can reach a maximum runtime of around 54 hours (9 hours × 2 charges × 3 devices), which is quite impressive. The transmitter and charging case both take less than 1 hour and 30 minutes to fully charge.
