Canon RF75-300mm F4-5.6 and EOS R100 Kit: A revival of a lightweight and budget-friendly telephoto lens

Canon is expanding its RF lens lineup with the entry-level RF75-300mm F4-5.6 telephoto zoom and a new EOS R100 kit, aimed at first-time mirrorless users on a budget who want to shoot sports, wildlife, and live events.

Canon’s new RF75-300mm F4-5.6 lens is aimed at creators transitioning from smartphones to an interchangeable-lens system, offering a lightweight and straightforward setup. When paired with the EOS R100 in the Double Zoom Kit, it provides an affordable entry point into the RF ecosystem for budget-conscious still photographers.

A Compact, Lightweight Telephoto Choice

The Canon RF75-300mm F4-5.6 delivers up to 480mm equivalent reach on APS-C cameras, unlocking new framing opportunities for capturing distant subjects in outdoor settings.

Is this truly a new zoom lens?

While officially introduced as part of the RF lineup, the Canon RF75-300mm F4-5.6 closely resembles the older EF 75-300mm F4-5.6 lens, a long-standing budget telephoto in Canon’s DSLR range. The optical construction (13 elements in 9 groups), aperture range, and absence of image stabilization are nearly identical to the EF version, suggesting this RF model is more of a mount adaptation than a full redesign. For users transitioning from Canon’s older DSLR systems, the lens will feel familiar in handling and performance—but now it connects directly to the mirrorless EOS R cameras without the need for an adapter.

Key Specifications:

  • 75–300mm focal length (480mm equivalent on APS-C)
  • f/4-5.6 maximum aperture
  • 507g weight, 146.1mm in length
  • 1.5m minimum focusing distance
  • 0.25x maximum magnification at 300mm
  • 58mm filter thread
  • DC motor autofocus with AF/MF switch
  • No image stabilization

EOS R100 Double Zoom Kit for Emerging Creators

Canon is pairing the new lens with the EOS R100—its smallest and most affordable RF-mount mirrorless camera—targeting first-time mirrorless users and those upgrading from Rebel or M-series cameras.

The R100 features a 24.2MP APS-C sensor, DIGIC 8 processor, Dual Pixel CMOS AF with eye and face detection, and Full HD video recording up to 60fps (with cropped 4K up to 24fps). Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth offer easy connectivity for creators transitioning from smartphones to dedicated cameras.
