Sigma Unveils New 200mm F2 DG OS Sport Full-Frame Lens

Today, SIGMA revealed two new lenses. While one of them is a 12mm APS-C lens, the real highlight is the SIGMA 200mm F2 DG OS Sports—marketed as the world’s first 200mm F2 lens built for full-frame mirrorless cameras. The lens will be offered in L-mount and Sony E-mount versions, with an official release scheduled for September 4, 2025.

The 200mm F2 lens is powered by SIGMA’s HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) autofocus system, ensuring fast and highly accurate focusing. To control camera shake, it employs the OS2 stabilization algorithm, delivering up to 6.5 stops of compensation (CIPA-rated, tested at 200mm on full-frame).

Two stabilization modes are available:

  • Mode 1: Standard stabilization for everyday shooting.
  • Mode 2: Panning mode, enhanced by the Intelligent OS algorithm, optimized for both horizontal and vertical motion.

Key Specs

The lens is built with a 19-element, 14-group optical structure, incorporating two FLD and two SLD elements to minimize chromatic aberration. It offers an 11-blade rounded diaphragm with an aperture range from F2 to F22. Measuring 118.9mm in diameter and 201mm in length, it weighs 1,820g. The closest focusing distance is 170cm, delivering a maximum magnification ratio of 1:7.6.

The autofocus system employs SIGMA’s HLA (High-response Linear Actuator), while the OS2 stabilization claims up to 6.5 stops of compensation with two modes: standard and panning, enhanced by the “Intelligent OS” algorithm.

Optical Design:

  • 19 elements in 14 groups
  • 2 FLD (Fluorite-like Dispersion) elements
  • 2 SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements
  • 11-blade rounded diaphragm
  • Minimum aperture: F22

Physical Specs:

  • Focal length: 200mm
  • Maximum aperture: F2
  • Angle of view: 12.3°
  • Minimum focusing distance: 170cm
  • Maximum magnification: 1:7.6
  • Filter size: 105mm
  • Dimensions: 118.9mm (diameter) × 201mm (length)
  • Weight: 1,820g

At F2, this lens gathers twice as much light as F2.8 telephotos, making it highly practical for low-light sports shooting and shallow depth-of-field portraits. The 200mm focal length provides moderate telephoto compression while remaining more compact than longer lenses.

For filmmakers, the addition of an aperture ring (on the L-mount version), focus breathing control, and dual stabilization modes makes the lens suitable for cinematography. However, detailed information on video-specific performance, such as the exact breathing behavior, has not yet been disclosed.

Build Quality and Weather Protection

In line with SIGMA’s Sports line standards, the 200mm F2 DG OS Sport is built to handle demanding conditions. It offers dust and splash resistance, a heat-dissipating barrel finish, and a water-repellent coating on the front element for easier cleaning.

The control layout includes three customizable AFL buttons, a focus mode switch, a focus limiter, an Optical Stabilizer switch, and a custom mode selector for quick adjustments.

The L-mount version adds extra functionality, featuring a de-clickable and lockable aperture ring, selectable linear or non-linear manual focus response, and full compatibility with the USB Dock UD-11 for firmware updates and personalization.

Both L-mount and Sony E-mount variants are supplied with a lens hood, front and rear caps, a padded carry pouch, an Arca-Swiss compatible tripod collar, and a detachable shoulder strap.

Mount-Specific Features

L-Mount version offers:

  • Linear or non-linear focus switching (depending on the camera)
  • Compatibility with the SIGMA USB Dock UD-11 for firmware updates and customization
  • Aperture ring with both click and lock switches

Sony E-Mount version:

  • Fully compliant with Sony’s licensed E-mount specs
  • Includes the standard E-mount feature set

Optical Performance

According to SIGMA, the lens is engineered to reduce common telephoto issues such as axial and lateral chromatic aberration.
It also uses Super Multi-Layer Coating together with Nano Porous Coating to minimize flare and ghosting.
Every unit is individually tested with SIGMA’s in-house MTF measurement system before shipping.

Price and Availability

The lens will be available on September 4, 2025, with a retail price of $3,299.
